Yesterday I posted my interview with Straw & Gold founder Lauren Musacchio—an honest chat about getting it all done and finding balance as a young entrepreneur—and today, she's sharing a few of her favorite things. Can't wait to check out that sushi spot she mentioned and I couldn't agree more, there's nothing quite like Smokey Mountain National Park. We were there a couple of years ago and I was blown away by the views.
Most definitely Ushiwakamaru in the West Village. It's such a treat and quite the experience. I thought I liked sushi until I went here and found out what sushi really is. It's so fresh that it melts in your mouth. If I want to celebrate, I'll go there and have omakase with a nice bottle of sake.
Bird on Smith St. in Carroll Gardens. I think I always have a running wish-list. I recently bought a pair of clogs there that are now glued to my feet.
FAVORITE AMERICAN PHOTOGRAPHERS
I love the work of Jim Krantz. Whenever a cowboy is included, you've got my attention. My other favorite is Justine Kurland. Gosh, I've been trying to find a print to buy for months now and I can't seem to make up my mind. I also recently bought a print from Alex Hoerner, who creates these incredible scenes with massive bubbles. I have one hanging in my living room. Fun to daydream with.
BEST TRIP EVER
I recently went on a road trip with my man down to New Orleans all the way back home to NYC. We were able to cruise around small towns that you'd never dream you'd be in. My favorite spot on the trip (and ultimate location of my dream home) was in the Smokey Mountains. They were enormous and most definitely smokey. We rented a tiny cabin in the middle of nowhere, cooked delicious meals every night, gazed at the stars, played with sparklers (the little child in me—they are so fun!) and danced to some Waylon Jennings. It was one of the sweetest moments in my life.
AMERICAN-MADE PRODUCTS YOU OWN AND LOVE
I love my Flint Outdoors apron that I either wear while making messes in the kitchen, concocting beauty products, being forced to chop wood with my man (just kidding, I love it), dressing up for a night on the town and for sleeping in. That's about it. I also adore my Sara Barner saddle bag. She made them exclusively for Straw and Gold. I told myself to only buy one item from the shop and I ended up with the apron and this bag. And boy, oh boy, oh boy, do I love this bag. It has gotten better with age. Gets super smooth. It's basically the coolest bag on the market. Done.
FIVE THINGS THAT MAKE YOU HAPPIEST
1) Writing music
2) Being in the country
3) My man
4) My dog
MOST TREASURED POSSESSION
Honestly, my dog. He's the coolest, sweetest, most loving creature in the world.
