Often, the best, most inspired ideas stem from time away from work. Last summer, Hygge & West designers (and childhood friends) Aimee Lagos and Christiana Coop traveled to Mexico, and were so taken by the gorgeous architecture, detailed murals, and stunning scenery at every turn, that when they returned to the states, they teamed up with Jennifer Stady and Andrea Brandter of Laundry Studio, who converted the photos into wallpaper patterns.
"I'd been to Mexico City with my husband once before and fell in love with it, so when we had another opportunity to go, I insisted Christina come along," said Aimee. "It's just an amazing city. There is so much history, but it also has a trendy sensibility to it."
Aimee and her husband stayed at Downtown Mexico, a 17-room hotel in Mexico City designed by Paul Roco for four days, and then she and Christina stayed at Casa de Sierra Nevada in San Miguel de Allende for another four.
"It was spectacular. The colors of the landscape, the buildings and sky were just amazing. By total coincidence, we happened to be there for Semana Santa, the week leading up to Easter, so there was a really energetic, festival-like atmosphere."
