Yesterday afternoon, I had the whole house to myself for a couple of hours. All the windows were wide open, so there was this great cross breeze going, and I sat at the dining room table with the giant hunk of chocolate cake you see above from my local bakery—an impromptu purchase from earlier in the day. There was nothing to celebrate, I just felt like eating cake. It was perfect. When I think about what makes life so damn great, more often than not, it's simple pleasures over major life events, like daffodils coming up in the yard or receiving a card in the mail for no particular reason. The little joys add up.
Speaking of joys, it's finally Friday! Happy Weekend, dear readers, and thank you for taking time out of your busy lives to check in with 50 States of Style. There are some exciting features coming up soon, including a profile on one of the most talented letterpress designers in the business, and an interview with a store buyer who might have the coolest job ever. Have fun this weekend, and if you happen to live in the Hudson Valley, check out Baked by Susan in Croton-on-Hudson, NY. Susan's bakery is open both weekend days and her breads and cakes (above) are worth traveling for! Here are some fun links to help you procrastinate:
