Are you guys familiar with King's Game, also referred to as Kubb or Viking Chess? It's an outdoor game that's basically a cross between horseshoes and bocce (the object is to knock over wooden blocks by throwing wooden batons at them) and one of my favorite Seattle designers, Fruit Super, recently designed an entirely American-made set! The birch hardwood is from Maine, the canvas bag which holds all 21 pieces is made in Seattle, and so is their illustrated rule book. Co-founder Sallyann Corn said she and her partner Joe Kent were inspired to make their own version after falling in love with Kubb on a summer trip to Denmark but being unable to find an American-made set upon returning to the states. "It's super simple," she says, "and there's something incredibly satisfying about the sound of wood hitting wood." The game can be played with two to 12 players at the beach, in the yard, or at a park. Check it out here.
