I love the look of matching, or at least complementary salt and pepper shakers on the dinner table, but if you prefer salt with a slightly larger grain, a shaker serves no purpose on your table other than to sit there looking pretty. This little earthenware dish, which stands just one inch tall and several inches across from Chicago-based artist Susan Dwyer of Up in the Air Somewhere, is adorable and totally functional. It's handmade with an uneven lip and finished with a clear glaze on the inside, making it food safe. The outside and rim are gold leafed and sealed with a satin sealant to keep the leaf protected. Each dish is totally unique with a slightly different shape. And obviously salt is just one of its many uses—I can also see it holding a special trinket or memento. Available here at Clementine. Susan also offers a spoon and dish set on her site here.
